Dr. Coombs was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is a proud member of the city’s vibrant Greek Orthodox Community. After graduating from Judge Memorial Catholic High School, he obtained his B.Sci. from Westminster College, where he received multiple academic scholarships and was inducted into the College’s Honors Program. He then studied at the University of Cambridge in England prior to attending medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine, where he earned several professionalism awards from his peers and the distinction of Medical Humanities Scholar. Dr. Coombs subsequently completed a 6-year integrated plastic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, OH, during which time the institution was consistently ranked as one of the best hospitals in the world. As a Chief Resident, Dr. Coombs was selected to pilot the Cleveland Clinic Focused Training in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Program (akin to an embedded aesthetic fellowship with an emphasis on facelift and rhinoplasty) under the guidance of two master facial aesthetic surgeons—Dr. James Zins and Dr. Bahman Guyuron. Following graduation from residency, Dr. Coombs secured his top choice for craniofacial surgery fellowship under internationally renowned Dr. Jeffrey Fearon. After completing this additional year of advanced subspecialty training, he was invited to join Dr. Fearon in practice and is honored for the opportunity to treat patients at the Dallas Craniofacial Center.
Dr. Coombs’s craniofacial surgery practice centers upon the treatment of rare facial differences and birth anomalies involving the skull and jaws in children, and even adults, who travel to Dallas both domestically and from abroad. His aesthetic surgery practice is focused on rejuvenation of the aging face and neck, in addition to the breast and body. His prior experience is particularly well-suited to patients seeking rhinoplasty and helping those with facial asymmetries and concerns related to surgery after trauma or cancer.
Dr. Coombs maintains a steady commitment to plastic surgery research, and the number of his peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters, and presentations exceeds 100; additionally, hundreds of other authors have cited his research contributions. He is a reviewer for the Pediatric & Craniofacial Surgery section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is considered to be the preeminent journal for this specialty. He also reviews articles in related topics for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal–the official publication of The Aesthetic Society.
Dr. Coombs is a member of multiple professional societies, and in his spare time, enjoys racquet sports, golf, alpine skiing, traveling with his wife, and relaxing with their dogs alongside a new book.
